Community is progressive by nature; it requires right hands with right prospective to bring about the transformation…
KAGAS is dedicated to improve the quality of life of the people of the hills of Northern India. For over 28 years we have been working in the region by implementing various innovative projects to improve the state of health, livelihood, promote and conserve organic farming with low-cost technology.
Health
Health has been an important focal point for any community. Unless the present generation stays healthy, it can’t pass on a healthy genetic heritage to the future generations. KAGAS has been implementing a number of health projects in the state of Uttarakhand to facilitate the people with basic health facilities, emotional care, child and maternal care facilities. Also, KAGAS is working on to spread awareness on HIV and AIDS and increase in health condition of the adolescence. Following is the list of the various health projects that KAGAS has implemented so far.
Livelihood
Financial independency is a matter of pride. To secure the basic necessities of life, we are engaged in a variety of occupations. However, in a difficult terrain as that of the Hills, where mobility, communication, transportation are not only cost and time consuming, ensuring a regular, systematic and steady source of income generation has been a tough challenge. KAGAS, for years, has been working on to build the capacity of the community members through various projects and campaigns to engage them in traditional yet evolved means of livelihood. The followings are the various livelihood programs that KAGAS has been implementing.
Community Based Economic Development Project
Livelihood improvement Project for the Himalayas
Project Swa-Shakti
Technology Intervention for the Upliftment of SC Communities
Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hastshilp Vikas Yojna
Promotion of Organic Farming
Usha Silai School Program
Technology
Technology has made human life easy and improved. In all aspects of our lives, there is inclusion of technology in some way or other. In the hilly state of Uttarakhand, where most of the places are located in remote areas, people are largely dependent on traditional ways of farming, which is not giving enough return compared to the efforts, times and resource utilized. KAGAS is working on to promote organic farming with suitable technology inclusion in association with Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi in the targeted areas so that the farmers would be able to reap better benefit out of the same efforts, resource and time utilization.
